Restorative Practices are not just reactionary measures, they are often used as a way to create community and connection. It is through the creation of a supportive community and open lines of communication, that we are able to prevent harms before they happen and support community members in their time of need.

In an effort to bring Restorative Practices holistically to Lafayette, our services and resources are open to students, faculty, and staff.

What are Restorative Practices?

Restorative practices(RP) are a way to prevent or respond to harm in a community with an emphasis on healing, social support, and active accountability. RP includes a variety of practices with many rooted in indigenous and religious traditions. Some practices help prevent harm by helping people build relationships and strengthen communities. Other practices respond to harm by helping to clearly identify harms, needs, and solutions through an inclusive and collaborative decision-making process.

How does Lafayette currently use Restorative Practices?

Lafayette currently integrates a wide variety of restorative practices in the every day actions and duties of the college. The department of Residential Life works daily to build community and build strong relationships with residents, while the office of student conduct address harms in the community. We believe that strong interpersonal relationship are the foundation to strong and healthy community.

Why Student Conduct & Restorative Practices?

Restorative Justice is one part of the broader scope of Restorative Practices. The office of Student Conduct aims to better fulfill the mission of the college by taking a restorative approach to violations of the code of conduct. We believe the opportunity to help students learn and grow is a vital part to a student overall education.

What resources & services do you offer?

We offer a wide variety of resources and services to all members of the Lafayette community. These services include; conflict mitigation, community building, consulting, presentations, apology workshops, and much more.
